So the word is now that Puerto Viejo is not going to have a marina. Appearantly the locals were against it, and now the marina will be built in Limon.
The reason that Limon has been avoided when it comes to building more commercial outlets, is the media coverage of crime. Limon has a bad reputation. Limon’s reputation has also affected tourism in Puerto Viejo, and me having been there twice I can tell you that Puerto Viejo is very safe.
Investors are currently looking at Puerto Viejo and people who go there realize that the area is nothing like what we have seen about Limon on TV, Limon the city, not the province which Puerto Viejo is a part of.
There are two other areas where marinas are going to be built, and those are Tambor (on the Nicoya Peninsula) and Cabuya (on the same peninsula as well).
Tambor is an upscale neighborhood featuring golf courses, casinos and high-end hotels.
Cabuya is a sleepy little beachtown located next to Montezuma with great surf.
The timeline is not certain. This can take many years. But those of you who are into investing and interested in starting a business in Costa Rica, need to consider the changes ahead in certain areas to determine where the best location for you to do business might be.
